Mission Australia, one of the country’s leading community service organisations, has up to 100 students in Adelaide’s southern and northern suburbs who are going back to school through its Learning Unlimited programs

Mission Statement
Learning Unlimited believes in the potential of all young people, that each young person deserves the opportunity to discover themselves.
Learning Unlimited believes that by empowering young people and building stronger communities through the engagement of young people in meaningful learning experiences they can develop a plan for their future and a sense of purpose and hope.
About Learning Unlimited
Learning Unlimited is a cluster of services providing programs in partnership with schools and community organisations.
Its core objective is to meet the needs of young people who have or are at the risk of disengaging from their communities and their education.
Learning Unlimited seeks to achieve this by:
1. Strengthening the capacity and skills of schools, families and communities to support young people to access mainstream education, accredited training, enterprise or employment.
2. Providing flexible education and training to young people between the ages 10 to 19 that can be delivered on campus or in a range of community based learning environments.
3. Providing programming, that will offer young people the opportunity to:
• Reframe the negative to the positive.
• Build leadership skills.
• Develop emotional resilience.
• Gain a greater self-awareness about themselves and others.
• Learn skills to effectively manage change.
• Fulfil personal goals by developing and maintaining a pathway into mainstream education, further accredited training, enterprise or employment.
• Reconnect young people with their families, community and school environment.
• Identify, acknowledge and understand their personal issues and experiences while assisting themselves to stay engaged with learning.
Learning Unlimited Programming
Learning Unlimited Programs contain accredited content that can be tailored to your services needs.
The overarching approach to Learning Unlimited programming is, fun, relevant educational content, that is participant driven, and professionally facilitated.
All programs have been tried and proven to be successful.
Learning Unlimited acknowledges there are many factors that result in a young persons disengagement. As such Learning Unlimited have developed programs with specific content that are designed to target specific groups.
Learning Unlimited Programs can address:
• Issues that lead to disengagement such as bullying, personal development and resilience training, numeracy and Literacy.
• Students who are experiencing transitioning difficulties between year levels.
• Students who are under the age of 16 and are at risk of leaving school.
• Students who are over the age of compulsion and require additional assistance to developed job preparation and employment skills.
• Young people who are under the age of 16 and have left the education system.
• Young people who are over the age of compulsion that have been disengaged long term from the education, training system and or job market and are seeking to reconnect.
• Disconnection from the community by facilitating youth participation and development within the local and wider community.
Program Details
Say Choices
Targets young people who are over the age of compulsion and are experiencing educational disadvantage.
Offers opportunities for participants to access accredited education and training.
WAVE
A program aimed at young people who are over the age of compulsion to assist in their successful transition from school into sustainable employment and further training.
Girls Talk
Aimed at young women, developing strategies on how to support themselves and others.
Express Yourself
Promotes self respect, responsible citizenship and understanding of others.
Speak for Yourself
A program designed to develop participant’s skills in community awareness, participation and action.
Learning Links
A program keeping young people linked to the school community by providing alternative, fun programming that is tailored to their needs.
Youthlinx
Keeping young people linked to the community their families and school. This program offers Adventure programming and peer mentoring.
Southern Early Intervention Service (Reconnect)
An early intervention program aimed a family reconciliation for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and their families by providing early intervention support through counseling, mediation and practical support to the whole family.
NOW (No Opportunities Wasted)
An indigenous specific program designed to assist disengaged young people to become positive about their futures, set concrete goals and develop the skills needed to make their dreams a reality An indigenous youth worker provides case-work, skill development programs, transition planning and mentoring. The NOW steering committee researches local issues and solutions relevant to indigenous young people.
UCan2
This program supports young Aboriginal fathers and indigenous sports oriented youth and their peers to re engage with the SACE curriculum and the education system. This is facilitated through the provision of a community based learning program through accreditation of sport, social and community participation.
