The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) has secured funding to investigate how effective peer-led interventions are in providing education on ecstasy and related drugs (ERD) to users. Peer Education will focus on the specific risk of mixing ecstasy with other pharmaceuticals that stimulate serotonin production. This research will take place over the Australian summer of 2006/07 in four sites - Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra and Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

As part of this project, NDARC has partnered with the Australian Red Cross save-a-mate Program, the KIS Project run by Manly Drug Education and Counselling Centre (MDECC) and Unity run by Jellinek in Amsterdam.

We are looking for 20 highly motivated and reliable volunteers to be trained as peer educators for this project. For your efforts you will receive the following:

· 6 Hours of specialised training in ecstasy and related drugs

· Experience in data collection and interviewing techniques

· A work experience reference

· Free attendance to at least 2 big festival/dance parties

o Summer Enchanted (Dec 9th)

o New Years Eve at Colley Tce Glenelg (Dec 31st)

o Australia Day (Jan 26th)

o Big Day Out (Feb 2nd)

· A project t-shirt and other mechandising

· Opportunity to hang out with like-minded peers

To be eligible to participate in this research project you must be able to attend a compulsory drug information training session to be held at Red Cross House, 207-217 Wakefield Street Adelaide on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th December from 5.30 - 8pm. Nibbles will be provided.
